Deuterium concentration on-line monitoring in the heavy-water moderator of the PIK reactor

The project of PIK reactor (Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute named by B.P. Konstantinov of National Research Center «Kurchatov Institute») assumes existence of continuous remote control of heavy water moderator coolant. For this purpose, an automatic flow analysis system of heavy water (AFAS HW) has been developed. A flow NIR spectrometer was included in this system to measure the concentration of heavy water (deuterium and protium).
This article presents the results of laboratory tests of an online heavy water spectrometer (Matrix). The results show the applicability of the Matrix to continuous remote monitoring of deuterium concentration in heavy water.
